Transition
Pathways
A transition pathway, is a student’s journey from school to
life after school (post - school). A
successful transition prepares the student for the ‘outside’ world and links
the student, and family, with adequate and appropriate services and supports to
ensure a safe and satisfying future.
At year 10, or equivalent, the teacher sets down the
student, and family, dreams and vision for the future, in the SET (Senior
Education and Training) Plan. The SET
Plan provides the background and direction for the senior phase of schooling
and the student’s transition pathway.
At Beenleigh Special School, during years 11 and 12,
students are gradually and strategically immersed in the community, to explore
options, develop new relationships, build confidence and find what suits them
best. Students with the interest and capacity
to work – be it supported employment, open employment or volunteer work, are
directed towards an ‘Employment Pathway’. Where work is not a viable option, a ‘Recreational Pathway’ is
available. Some students will travel both
pathways.
Beenleigh Special School has built a reputation for successful
transition processes and outcomes for students. This success is built on strong community partnerships, support networks
and the types of relationships that provide abundant opportunities and variety
for students. The school’s determination
to secure quality outcomes for students, is based on the belief that within
disability lies ability!
